1. How & when was the
Programme established?
The Programme was launched on 29 July 1998 by Deputy Prime Minister
and Defence Minister of Singapore, Dr Tony Tan. It is funded by a
S$25 million endowment from the Singapore Totalisator Board and the
Singapore Government.
2. What is the goal of setting up this Programme?
- To position Singapore as the hub of world-class business and
management education - "the Boston of the East".
- To help develop Asia's future business and government leaders.
- To develop an important network of individuals in senior levels
throughout Asia and elsewhere.
3. What kind of candidates are you looking for?
High potential individuals in mid-career, both from the private
sector and public sector, primarily from the Asian region. The average
age of our candidates is about 35 years. They include bankers, lawyers,
engineers, diplomats, military officers, new economy entrepreneurs,
senior civil servants and even medical doctors.
4. Where do your candidates come from?
About 60% from overseas countries and 40% from Singapore. So far,
about 60% are from the business sector and 40% from the government
sector.
Including the new Class of 2007/2008, we have Fellows from
Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hungary, India, Indonesia,
Japan, Laos, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Myanmar,
Namibia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines,
Poland, Singapore,
South Africa, South Korea, Sri-Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey,
Vietnam.
5. What do Nanyang Fellows do when they complete the course?
Most of them return to their home countries and organisations, usually
to more senior roles. One Nanyang Fellow from Malaysia returned
to Kuala Lumpur and was promptly handpicked to become a special
officer to a federal minister.
One of our first Indonesian graduates, Luki Wanandi, is a scion
of the influential Gemala Business Group and was featured in The
Sunday Times on 17 June 2001 as one of the promising Indonesian
business leaders of the new generation. Another Fellow, Charles Sih, is now a Brigadier General in the Republic of Singapore Air Force.

7. What are the admission requirements?
- A good bachelor's degree
- At least 8 years of management or senior professional experience
- Demonstrated fluency in English & a good score in the TOEFL
- Recommendation from organisation' s CEO or equivalent

8. What is the duration of this Programme?
The Programme is only available on a full-time basis. The duration
of the Programme is 12 months (3 trimesters)
- 11 months at NTU ( July - May)
- 4 weeks at MIT Sloan School of Management (June)
9. How much does it cost to undertake this Programme?
The total fee is S$51,000.00 which includes tuition fee at NTU,
one overseas Business Study Mission and tuition fees for MIT.
10. What are the course requirements?
- 10 full courses, 2 half courses and to select 12 AU subjects from
the Nanyang MBA Programme curriculum.

11. How do you recruit your candidates?
We mainly recruit by direct selling. We approach CEOs & HR Directors
of top companies and overseas Ambassadors in Singapore directly.
We also recruit direct from leading companies overseas, primarily
from the Asian region.
There are 3 ways for candidates to get into our Programme: by scholarship,
sponsorship from companies, and self-funding. Besides direct selling,
we do advertise in local and overseas newspapers and magazines.
12. Do you offer any scholarships for this Programme?
Yes, but the scholarships are only offered to outstanding overseas
candidates. The scholarship provides each scholar with:

13. What does the Programme focus on?
This Programme is patterned after the MIT Sloan Fellows Programme.
Our courses provide a broad general management training. We also
pay special emphasis to policy issues at the regional and global
level. So, while we provide a solid grounding in the standard MBA
topics like accounting, finance, economics, mergers & acquisitions,
executive communications, strategic management and others, we also
discuss broader policies like corruption & ethics, the Kyoto
Protocol, and Asian-EU-North American trade and investment issues.
14. What are the highlights of the Programme?
The highlights include:

A Leadership Series featuring prominent CEOs and public figures
speaking to our Fellows in closed-door sessions. Previous speakers
include: Jock McKenzie (CEO, Caltex); S Dhanabalan (Chairman, DBS
Bank); Sunil Srinivasan (Country Officer, Citibank, Singapore);
Koh Boon Hwee (Executive Chairman, Wuthelam Holdings); Philip Yeo
(Chairman, EDB); Dr Tony Tan (Deputy Prime Minister, Singapore);
and Rear Admiral Stephen Loeffler (US Navy).
